Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students do not receive textbooks or workbooks in my Gifted program. They need photocopies of Gifted materials to reinforce concepts learned in class. I want my students to fall in love with Gifted, but they need materials to learn and be challenged!
I teach at two different low-income schools and have 28 Gifted elementary students in Florida.
My students attend schools that are focused on passing the state tests. However, it is difficult to learn Gifted concepts without copies of materials. They rely on photocopies to study.
Furthermore, our Gifted students will feel like they are in an actual Gifted program, as opposed to the lack of consistency they've had for the past 3 years. I'm the third gifted teacher they've had this year alone! I've taught Gifted for the past 8 years at a similar low-income school. Now, I am shared between two schools and there really is a need for many materials for these gifted students.
My Project
I am supplied with 400 copies a month, this equates to 2.5 copies per student. I would love to provide my students with photocopies of everything we cover in class to use as reference for homework. I would love to send my students home with worksheets to complete as homework. However, I am unable to do this with only 400 copies a month. I will use the printer ink and copy paper to provide my students with all the materials they need. Many of my students are unable to provide their own paper and flash drives as they hope to receive them from school. They need flash drives to save their technology projects in Gifted class and paper to complete their work!
With the paper and ink my students will receive extra practice with Gifted curriculum.
They will be able to study at home with photocopies of concepts discussed in class. My students will receive the practice they need to succeed in Gifted. I need printer ink and copy paper to provide them with photocopies. When there is a constant supply of paper and drives, my students feel less embarrassed about not being able to bring the supplies on their supply list for the Gifted program.
