Printing Supplies for English and Journalism Classes

My Students

Our school is the most diverse high school in perhaps the most diverse city in the nation, and the one that most closely reflects the overall demographics of Oakland. Our students are awesome!

I'm trying to cut down on printing and be more sustainable, but my students need physical copies of handouts and need to put pen to paper.

Please help me more efficiently plan and prepare for my classes by funding printing supplies for my classroom.

Though this is not my most exciting project, I hope I'm conveying its importance to you and you will consider donating. Thank you!

My Project

I teach at a large high school on a sprawling campus with many buildings. I have a printer in my classroom, but my school will not fund printing supplies for individual classrooms. I understand the school's decision in an era of underfunded public education and do not fault them, but the situation is difficult.

Having these resources will help me provide high-quality lessons to my students in an efficient manner.

I focus on teaching students research and analytical writing skills. My seniors will soon be reading James Baldwin and Toni Morrison, and my juniors will start with the play '12 Angry Men,' and each grade level will also be engaging in rigorous research projects. They need graphic organizers, worksheets, and more. If I am unable to print in my classroom, I need to walk across campus to the staff lounge and print there, where there are only two available printers and dozens of teachers all trying to use them. They could jam or run out of ink/toner at any time.

On the other hand, if I can print in my own classroom, I can save lots of time and be able to plan and prep for my classes much more efficiently. This leaves me less stressed and allows me to be a more effective teacher and better serve my students.
