This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at a magnet middle school that has a mix of magnet and zoned students. I teach technology elective classes that focus on media and design. The majority of my students are from low-income households and from very diverse backgrounds.
My students love technology and being creative.
However, many of these students do not have access to technology outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.
My Project
Now that students are slowly returning to face to face learning, it is important for them to be able to interact with the technology they have been using during the last year of distance learning. One of the programs used in my class is Tikercad, which students use to design solutions to problems and create models that demonstrate concepts that we have been learning. Although students have been learning to create the 3D models, we have not been able to print them all. Now that we are returning, I would like to be able to print as many student projects as possible for students. This 3D Printer will be used in the classroom to support creatine design and student projects.
