Printing Possibilities: 3D Tools for Math

Help me give my students a Flashforge 3D printer and filament so they can explore math through hands-on, custom-made manipulatives that bring abstract concepts to life.

My Project

Math can be one of the most challenging subjects for students—especially when the concepts stay stuck on paper. That’s why I want to bring a 3D printer into our classroom: to turn numbers, shapes, and equations into real, hands-on experiences. With a 3D printer, I can create custom math manipulatives that make abstract ideas easier to understand. Imagine students holding and rotating geometric solids, building fraction bars that snap together, or using 3D coordinate planes to physically plot points. These tools will help students who struggle with traditional instruction by giving them a tangible way to connect with the content.

Beyond manipulatives, the 3D printer will also allow me to create personalized math-themed incentives - like keychains, tokens, fidget toys, or small puzzles - to help keep students engaged and motivated.

These small, meaningful rewards can make a big difference in classroom morale and give students a sense of ownership in their learning. A 3D printer won’t just add cool gadgets to our classroom—it will give my students more opportunities to interact with math in creative, hands-on ways that make learning stick.
