My Students
I teach an amazing group of students with special needs in an urban title one charter school in Baltimore City. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn! They want to learn so much about the world around them and what's beyond the walls of our classroom. However, the students that I work with bring a lot of baggage into our classroom and it is my job to help them leave that baggage at the door, be kids for a while and learn through fun and exciting ways.
My students disabilities range from Autism to Learning Disabilities and I find that the more hands on and interactive learning can be, the more beneficial it is to my students.
Due to their disabilities, I am constantly changing up my teaching practices and finding new and exciting ways to reach and challenge my students without having them become frustrated and give up.
My Project
My students are consonantly creating creative work within my classroom. In order for them to be able to do this we need more materials to help them!
My students love having their classwork printed on colored paper.
It helps them stay organized (having different colors for different subjects) as well as certain colors help them calm down during challenging tasks. We create interactive notebooks for both math and reading and being able to do so with colored paper (and lots of glue sticks) helps us create exciting notebooks that the students are proud of and use on a daily basis to become even smarter students!
I am constantly printing out work for my students on my personal printer (it's easier to print on card stock on a personal printer then on the big school one) and so I go through a lot of ink creating things for my students to use. Being able to have ink on hand at all times allows me to be a much more effective educator!
