Printing From a Distance

Help me give my students a chance to explore the process of drypoint etching with a printing press that can accommodate etching and block printing. Each student will get their own scribe to use.

My Students

Distance learning and teaching is hard on all parties involved whether it's the students, parents, or teachers. Our students are spread out over 4 towns in central Maine and with distance learning we have the ability to bridge the distance and help people connect more.

Art has the power to help students process and deal with these uncertain times through a variety of mediums.

I want to allow the students from our communities more opportunities to use various mediums. With a printing press, high school students could dry point etch into plexiglass and then in an online classroom setting I would be able to print all of their plates for them to see the process involved with this form of printmaking.

My Project

Printmaking has a long history with the art world and these tools will allow high school students will be able to explore this medium.

Whether students are in the classroom or at home, this printmaking project will allow them to explore the traditional printing techniques involved with drypoint etching.

They will use their own scribe so as to reduce the exposure of germs.

Each student will take home a piece of plexiglass and a scribe and design their print. Students will watch demos on how the printing process works and then tune in for a live printing of their plates!
