This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember typing up an essay and printing it out nicely to turn in to the teacher? Do you remember being able to print pictures and word art and charts to put on your poster projects to enhance it?
My students are underprivileged, under supported, and lacking the proper love and care.
Some of my students aren't used to routine and structure. Respect has to be earned; students aren't willing to be respectful towards any adult. The school is low in funding, and it's a sink or swim with the teachers when it comes to classroom discipline and getting resources.
My Project
A printer would help the students add visual aids to their upcoming projects. A printer would also allow students to publish their writings, and provide a showcase to their parents/guardians/friends that they could be proud of. This year, students will compose four major essays. Students are more excited about their finished work when printed than handwritten. Also, when students complete posters and handouts, they like to include pictures for visual aids.
As a teacher, it is required to have a hard copy of lesson plans.
However, at my school, it's nearly impossible to print anything due to other teachers already printing out copies, the copier/printer being locked in a room, or copier/printer not connected and not working. Having my lesson plans printed and prepared allows me to be organized & teach my students more efficiently. Also, students do not have to leave the room to print their essays/visual aids they want to include in projects.
