This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade English Language Arts at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York. The majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged households. The students in my class have a wide range of learning styles, interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds. Despite their many unique qualities, one thing that my students have in common is a strong desire to learn that is sometimes hindered by a lack of resources.
Although, every day they are faced with many challenges both in and out of their homes, they come to school eager to learn.
My students are creative, funny, hardworking and determined to do their best! These kids face many difficulties including taking responsibilities beyond their ages, yet when they arrive to school they are just like any kids, filled with a passion to learn more about the world.
My Project
My students love to write. They love to tell their stories, edit their work, and publish their final paper. They like being able to use the computer to type their finished projects. However, we have to wait till after school is over so I can send student work to our school printer so we can display their work in the classroom, on our bulletin boards in the hallway, or to send home with families. Sharing their finished projects with their families gives them immense happiness. I am requesting a printer that my students will be able to connect our classroom computer so we can have instant access to publish our work.
Unfortunately, most of my students do not have access to technology in their homes.
They often complete projects in school or at their local library. Most of my students email me their projects or bring their projects on flash drives to print on the classroom printer. Student often use the printer to print pictures and graphs to go along with their projects.
Therefore, we are asking for a new printer so that we are able to continue completing projects successfully.
