Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are autistic, intellectually disabled, speech impaired and/or other health impaired. Each one thrives on structure and routine. Their favorite time of day is "Sign-in & Calendar" when they use the ActivBoard, greet each other, perform calendar tasks, and "show off."

Our school is very supportive and inclusive.

My students enjoy participating in activities such as reading buddies, grade level inclusion and peer to peer mentoring. Wherever we go in school, other students call out "hello" to my students and call them by name. They are an important part of our school community.

My Project

Visual supports are an integral part of my students' education and include PECs or picture exchange communication symbols, communication boards, icons, token reinforcement systems, and individual student schedules. Having colored printer ink ensures that students are provided with the best communication supports possible.

Colored icons and pictures are not a want but a tremendous need for any special education classroom.

Besides communication and visual supports, my students also benefit from social stories, teacher-made books, and picture supported activities with the Unique Learning System.

My students also need Dry Erase pens, tri-fold paper towels. and binders. We use dry erase pens daily for calendar activities. The students write or circle their answers on a laminated activity folder. The paper towels are needed because our district stopped providing the tri-fold ones which are easier for my students to manage. The binders will be used for individual student portfolios to house student IEPs, progress reports, work samples, and assessments.

We love getting packages from DonorsChoose. It's like Christmas throughout the school year. Thank you for supporting my classroom.
