Our school is a public Montessori school in Alaska. Our teaching philosophy supports following the child. We strive to create a learning environment that is prepared for and centered around all of our children's interests. It is our job to help spark curiosity within our students so that they may learn to love learning. Our goal is to help mold each of our children to be life-long learners.
Our students are extraordinary because they are not afraid to be creative, to be curious, to question the world around them, to care for one another, to stand up for themselves and their peers, or to push themselves beyond their frustrations.
Due to our school being Montessori, we spend three full school years together. We have our kids from first through third grade. We have more than a teacher-student relationship; our classes become a family.
Our school serves many military families. We understand what it takes to nurture the academic and social-emotional needs of these students and families during deployment and all transitions they may experience. Our philosophy allows for military students to quickly adjust to our learning style and gives them the opportunity to explore the world around them.
My Project
This school year my students are learning about the value of money through a variety of experiences. They'll start by learning the value of coins and the importance of earning, saving and spending money. They'll be expected to come up with an idea for a business, fill out a business plan, market to their peers, and create and sell their product on our Market Day. But that is not all...
Our class will be running a button making business throughout the school year.
Through DonorsChoose we have received a button maker, a small printer, and the materials needed to kickstart our business. We quickly realized that we are going to need more ink for our printer as our business is taking off quickly! This project was created to request enough ink to cover nearly 1,000 printed photos for the photo buttons and keychains we will be making to sell weekly and at our school functions.
All of the profits from this business will be used to pay for our annual overnight field trip to the Sealife Center in Seward, Alaska. With this project, we would be able to fully fund our Sealife Center field trip for 25 students. We will also be able to continue selling our product to help fund future field trips!
