Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful young men and women trying their hardest to overcome the challenges that surround them. Unfortunately, due to the many different circumstances, they have been labeled as "at risk" youth. All of my students are over aged and under-credited, with several having some experience with the justice system, and come from challenging backgrounds. Regardless of those facts, my students are interesting, intelligent, energetic, and deserving as any other student and I will work diligently to ensure they get everything they need in order to succeed.
My Project
My students need a new printer to replace a broken, 20 year old Brother printer. My students work on Chromebooks daily, completing class work, creating digital projects and writing resumes with cover letters. They also apply for jobs, colleges and complete government paperwork at our school. Most do not have access to computers at home. One of the biggest challenges they face is finding someplace to print their work and documents, which is slowing down their ability to submit critical paperwork and assignments in on time.
My school is full of old, broken and poorly functioning black and white printers, and it is hurting my student's ability to succeed.
My students spend a great deal of time struggling to find places where they can print their resumes, college applications and work for their senior portfolios. They are in dire need of a color printer to help accelerate their success. I am asking for your help in providing them a printer that will alleviate some of the pressures they face as they work to overcome their many personal challenges.
