This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My sixth graders are living in a technological world. Unfortunately, technology is not always easy to come by in public schools. Let's change that! I would like to send my students to middle school with a folder of printed writing that they have created as they learn how to use Microsoft Word.
My students live in a low socio-economic area and go to a school that is 100% free and reduced lunch.
They are curious and smart, eager to do projects and try new things. They have ideas and are learning how to express them. My school has a difficult time meeting their supplementary needs, and Donors Choose has been a wonderful asset to my classroom. This project will fill a gap and empower my students by allowing them to produce a fine finished product.
My Project
My students are beginning to learn Microsoft Word. They have been practicing typing programs, but Word will put them to the typing test. They will be able to create Word documents, learn how to upload them to Google Docs and Google Drive, then I can print them out. The portfolio folders will display their finished products. We will also be able to use the folders for the students' spring portfolios. They will include goals they created for themselves along with work samples that demonstrate their participation in class. The students learn how to present this folder to their parents for a student-led parent conference.
Any time the students are able to create a finished product that required time and effort, they will experience a sense of accomplishment.
They also have a purpose for the work they are doing. This project will also improve my classroom because I will be able to print worksheets and assessment reports quickly in my classroom without having to go to another room on campus during a free moment. I plan to share the printer with other teachers who do not have one in their classrooms.
