Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having a color printer in our art room will transform learning for my 300 students. Finally, they will be able to hold and closely study printed images of master artworks, not just see them on a faded projector screen. Students will observe how colors evolve through time and across cultures—something black-and-white copies or digital slides simply cannot convey. Unfortunately, art programs like ours are severely underfunded. We very rarely receive textbooks or physical learning materials, which means most of our exposure to art is virtual. This limits the tangible, hands-on connection students need to fully engage with artistic concepts.

With a high-quality color printer, I will turn our classroom into a rotating gallery and cultural museum.

Using vivid prints, I can create exhibits of famous artists, global traditions, and cross-curricular visuals that connect art to science, math, and language arts. This immersive approach will bring history and culture to life in a way that inspires creativity and deeper understanding. Access to printed visuals will support lessons with clarity and impact like never before—we need to see in order to create.

My students are incredibly special. We are a low-income school with limited access to the arts, and many of our students have never visited a museum or gallery. We also serve a large autism spectrum disorder unit, where modified resources and visual learning tools are essential for communication and expression. A color printer will allow me to provide meaningful accommodations and differentiated materials to help all students engage in the artistic process. This project will open a window into the world for children who truly need it.
