This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a wonderful group of preschoolers who are constantly eager to learn. They have limited educational resources at home because they come from low-income households, but they are very enthusiastic learners and happy children! My goal is to provide them with a positive environment at school where they can develop their natural curiosity and desire to learn about the world.

According to research, a print-rich environment allows children to see that reading and writing serve real, everyday purposes.

Children observe adults using printed materials and realize that print carries meaning. They explore print and become motivated to try to read and write themselves.

My Project

In our classroom we strive to provide our students with a print-rich environment to help them develop their literacy skills. We are requesting laminating pouches to laminate many of the learning materials that we create for durability. Such as: visual schedules, which provide them with pictures and instructions of what they will be working towards throughout the day. We are also requesting classroom labels to keep all the materials organized. We label the box and the shelf with the picture and the name of the materials so our students know where to put it back when they are done playing. We also provide our students with a variety of posters displayed around our classroom.

In a print rich preschool environment children learn to recognize letters, and eventually words that will prepare them to succeed in school.
