My Students
I teach special education in Oakland Unified. I work at a high school supporting students with a wide range of needs in all content areas.
My amazing students have returned to an empty classroom after being at home for 1.5 years.
They range in age from 14-16 and are all working hard to do their best and to make the most of a very difficult situation.
There is not a day that I do not feel lucky to have my job doing the work that I do! My students struggle to find their place as learners in school but I see them as creative, funny, and deeply empathetic young adults who are a testament to who they are and the bright future they deserve.
My Project
As students in Study Skills, executive functioning is not their strength. Most days, they arrive needing to work on something from a class earlier in the day and want to go back to that teacher to get their work. This means time out of the classroom and many distractions. To print their work, I would have to get classroom coverage and walk to the far side of the campus. Completely inefficient. This printer will allow me to support the students in the moment!
