Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I will be working with third-grade ESL students. They will be working really hard on learning to read and write in English. Many of them can be labeled as minorities, require special education services, qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, or go to homes that have very few to no school supplies to support their learning journey. Yet these labels do not define them or let you truly understand just how amazing these students are.

My students come to school excited to learn and have parents who want them to succeed.

They are faced with many challenges along the way, and they still push forward with smiles on their faces. My students are limited in English. They have to learn to speak, understand, read and write in English in a very short amount of time. They come to school every day eager to learn.

They value their education and get as much support as possible from home to ensure their success. These students emphasize day in and day out why I love to teach so much and work so hard to meet their needs.

My Project

Working with second language learners require a lot of visuals to support lesson comprehension and language development. The visuals help build vocabulary and language. I also constantly have to create and print reference sheets. At the same time, I have to modify and create special assignments for my non-English speaking students. This means I go through a lot of toner in my classroom in order to make all this happen.

Having toner for my laser printer will allow me to print the visuals, reference sheets, and modified assignments that my second language learners need to succeed.
