Print for Progress

Help me give my students a printer to support learning in a print-rich classroom.

My Project

A classroom color printer would be an invaluable tool to support the academic growth and English language acquisition of my English learner (EL) students. As an ESOL educator and advocate, I am constantly seeking ways to make instruction more accessible, engaging, and culturally responsive. Visual learning is a critical component for multilingual learners, and access to a color printer would allow me to create high-quality, visually rich materials tailored to their needs.

With a color printer, I could produce vibrant anchor charts that reinforce key academic vocabulary, grammar structures, and content-area concepts across all WIDA domains—listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

These visuals serve as constant reference points and provide language scaffolds that promote independence and confidence.

Additionally, the printer would empower students to create science and social studies projects that integrate language and content learning. Many of my students do not have access to printers or project materials at home, which limits their ability to participate in hands-on learning and creative assignments fully. With a classroom printer, they could design and print research posters, timelines, diagrams, and presentations that showcase their understanding while developing academic English.

The printer would also allow me to produce differentiated handouts, bilingual resources, and culturally relevant materials that reflect students’ backgrounds and interests. I often create vocabulary flashcards, graphic organizers, and picture-word supports—all of which are far more effective when presented in color.

In summary, a color printer would directly enhance the learning environment for English learners by making language and content more accessible, engaging, and personalized. It would support academic achievement, foster creativity, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive classroom where all students feel seen, valued, and capable of success. This tool would not only benefit my current learners but serve as an ongoing resource for the diverse ELs I support year after year.
