Many of them have not had many experiences outside the classroom, but technology has allowed us to stretch our imagination! 98% of our students are considered “low income” and our school is located in a high poverty area. Due to the lack of access to computers and other devices at home, my students do not have the opportunity to use technology to learn. I can’t put a computer in each student’s household, but I would like for the things we do with computers in the classroom to be shared with parents at home.
My Project
Having a printer for the computers in our classroom would be beneficial on so many levels. The days of copying research information by hand would be over! Research Projects would not be such a hassle if students could print out information being researched. My students could use a printer during reading workstations and print out stories to take home and read. Students could take comprehension test and print results to take home and share with their parents. A printer would be most useful during Writing Workshop; students could type and publish their stories to display in our writer’s gallery. Technology is such an important part of each student’s future, if we want to teach 21st century learners we must have 21st century tools!
The use of technology in the classroom is limitless!
Technology is an integral part of our culture as demands increase in the 21st century. A printer in our classroom would definitely enhance student learning!
