Primary Writing Journals for 1st Graders

My Project

I teach a class of energetic, creative, and curious first graders at a low-income, rural Title I school. Many of my students face daily challenges outside the classroom, but when they walk through our door, they come eager to learn and share their ideas.

Despite the hurdles they face, they are full of potential.

They love to express themselves through storytelling, drawing, and sharing their thoughts. With the right tools, they thrive.

My Project

This project will provide my first graders with primary writing journals, erasers to fix an errors, and magnets to display their amazing writings. These tools are perfectly suited to their age and development. These journals have a space for illustrations at the top and primary-lined pages below, helping students connect drawing with early writing.

With these journals, my students will:

Practice daily writing across all subjects

Strengthen fine motor and handwriting skills

Build confidence in their ability to express themselves in words and pictures

Currently, our school does not provide a classroom budget, and we rely heavily on donations and personal purchases. Your support will give each child their very own journal to use, treasure, and keep as a record of how far they’ve come this year.
