With the new dictionaries, thesauruses, and writing journals, students are learning important skills that strong readers and writers use every day. They are practicing how to look up unfamiliar words, discover synonyms to make their writing more interesting, and check spellings independently. During our writing time, students now use their journals to plan stories, write drafts, and revise their work using the dictionaries and thesauruses as helpful tools. These resources are helping students understand that authors carefully choose words and continue improving their writing.\r\n\r\nReading and writing in our classroom is active, collaborative, and creative. Students spend time reading independently, reading with partners, and listening to stories together as a class. We talk about characters, settings, and new vocabulary we discover in our books. The new reference books are often open on desks as students search for better words to describe a character or setting in their stories. It has been wonderful to watch students become more confident as they explore language and see themselves as both readers and writers.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially excited about the new materials. Some love flipping through the thesaurus to find \"fancier\" or more descriptive words to add to their stories, while others proudly use the dictionary to check spellings on their own. One student recently shared that using the thesaurus helped them change a simple word like \"big\" to \"enormous\" in their story, which made them feel like a real author. Moments like these show how much students are enjoying the tools and taking pride in their writing. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our classroom is truly becoming a place where future authors are growing every day","fullyFundedDate":1759706775515,"projectUrl":"project/building-future-authors/9413519/","projectTitle":"Building Future Authors","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Minard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10055624"},{"teacherId":9015756,"projectId":10059548,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping fund my headphone project for my second grade class. You have brought so much joy to my K–2 students who love to sing, move, and make music together. My students thrive when they can actively participate, and they learn best by doing; especially when they have real instruments in their hands!\r\n\r\nYou have literally put music into their hands with your donations. Music helps children grow in so many ways—socially, emotionally, and academically. Learning to keep a steady beat strengthens focus, memory, and self-control. Playing instruments together teaches teamwork and cooperation. Most of all, it brings joy!\r\n\r\nWith rhythm sticks and sand blocks, my students will develop musical skills and experience the excitement of making music as a group. Your support helps them discover the rhythm inside themselves and build a lifelong love of learning and music.\r\n\r\nThis fully funded project provides rhythm sticks and sand blocks for all of my primary aged K-2 students. These instruments are perfect for introducing the essential musical concepts of steady beat and rhythm. With rhythm sticks, students can tap, clap, and echo patterns, while sand blocks help them explore sound textures and creative movement.\r\n\r\nThese hands-on activities make learning fun and meaningful.
