My students are advanced placement sophomore students. I teach students a class that could get them college credit if they pass a high level exam - the AP exam. We are a new class, so we are in need of supplies that offer a variety of thinking strategies that pertain to the subject.

I want to teach students to be historical detectives. To do this I have to move away from the text book and more toward primary sources. Like many schools, we are limited in paper, so I am limited in making copies of primary sources. I would like to have the primary sources in a book format so I do not have to use copies. History is a story and I want to make it come alive with the people who lived during the periods' story.

I need sixteen copies of the primary source book. I would give each student a copy of the book and have them read from the book and analyze the point of view and have discussions about the pieces. I want to hook the students with the sources and make history come alive! Students will participate with the books for in class research, enjoyment reading and discussions. This evaluation of the primary sources makes students historical thinkers and evaluators.
