Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need more than basic reading and answering questions. They need more than simple group work or even teacher-led questioning. They need to be challenged. They need to have more responsibility and accountability for their learning. They have a greater connection with the past and a better understanding and remembrance and major events in American History through evidence-based learning and research projects.

Students have access to several secondary sources, but primary sources are difficult to find and access.

Secondary sources have their usefulness when researching major historical events and people, but primary sources allow students to draw their own conclusions and make their own interpretations of make events and people. Students can make their own connections. They are more engaged with the information and evidence when they are not basing their arguments and opinions solely on other scholarly opinions. It is also difficult to decipher fact from opinion or false information without having multiple witness accounts as possible to compare against. Students also need to learn how to judge and use primary sources as well as secondary sources.

School districts do not supply access to many, if any, primary sources, and teachers are limited in their financial ability to supply much for their classrooms and students, especially when having families of their own. Your donations will help guarantee my students have access to the necessary resources, fulfill the required standards set by the state, and learn with the same vigor as other students across the state and nation.
