My Project

When the coronavirus closed schools, our district did all it could to engage learners online. It was a tough battle. Today's learners are still working hard to gain and hone skills they were unable to grow during the pandemic.

Two skills that all learners, especially middle schoolers, can grow is communication and sportsmanship, and one way to grow those skills dramatically is through gameplay!

The games selected in this project have several uses. First, learners can gain the ability to grow interpersonal communication through explaining rules and friendly gaming banter. Second, they can learn about good sportsmanship through working together to include all players, keep play fair and based on rules, and winning and losing graciously. Several of the selected games focus on honing reading and math skills as well!

It is my hope that these games can be debuted school-wide via our Pride Time class, which is similar to advisory. Additionally, I'd like to see all teachers in my building having access to check these games out to use with learners when there is a logical place in their lesson planning, such as celebrating post-assessment or building classroom community. Lastly, these games can help build our Gaming Library, allowing students to check out a game to take home over weekends and breaks from school.
