Pride in the Library: Books for LGBTQ Teens and Allies

My students need books to inform and uplift LGBTQ students and allies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from all over New York City. Some of our students are in all AP classes while some are in self-contained special needs classes. Students come to our school for a variety of reasons: the rich offering of athletics and after school activities, the medical academy, college preparation activities and variety of clubs including the Gay Straight Alliance. The library is one place where many of them come together.

Our students reflect the rainbow of the cultural and sexual identities of the city.

We hope that our collection can help fully reflect this rainbow.

My Project

Expanding our offering of LBGTQ fiction and non-fiction books will help LGBTQ students feel welcome and honored. A welcoming environment will help students learn more. A rich collection will widen student views of what is possible. More books will also help inform student allies and other community members. Expanding our LGBTQ collection will allow students to know to know that the library is a safe place to learn and grow.

Make our high school library an entertaining, safe, and useful space for our LGBTQ students and allies by helping us expand our collection.

Help our library, students, and community to take pride.
