My students need anti-bullying books, a camera to film possible scenarios and solutions when dealing with a bully and a Kindle Fire to view the skits.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
No one is good at everything, but everyone is good at something. Help my students learn this life lesson. Young children are often teased because they don't hit the ball hard enough or don't read well enough. I want my students to learn that words hurt people and it is up to them to end bullying
My first graders are mostly English Language Learners in Southern California who love to read stories and have stories read to them, which is how many of them learn academic vocabulary needed to achieve in society.
They attend a school with limited resources but yet are very enthusiastic when it comes to participating in their own learning. Since many of my students struggle with the English language, they rely on visuals to aid them throughout the day.
My Project
Having access to read alouds about bullying and how to deal with a bully will provide my students with the understanding of what bullying really looks like as well as possible solutions to these problems. Although, reading a story will never be enough. One way my first graders learn is through kinesthetic activities. After reading a scenario or a story about bullying my students will then act out the scenario with possible solutions to the problem, while it is being filmed for future viewing and analysis by the rest of the class. The class can then use the Amazon Kindle Fire to view the bullying scenario, along with the best solutions to these problems. By acting out and viewing these scenarios, my students will be fully engaged in these activities and consequently learn strategies to deal with bullies.
Bullying is a big problem in our schools that can only be stopped through a comprehensive approach that includes storytelling, technology, and a classroom setting where risks can be taken safely by the students, without fear of being targeted.
These tools will keep my students from bullying each other, teach other students to problem solve appropriately and since many of these scenarios will be on video, they can be shared to inspire other students to stand up against bullying.
