This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a special place because it is one of the most diverse schools in our district. Our school mission revolves around accepting diversity! We have used sports to connect our students and have committed to being a healthy campus. In recent weeks, we have been challenged as a school and community, due to the catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Located in West Houston, next to the Buffalo Bayou, we lost massive amounts of equipment.

We are now in a scramble to find equipment that intrigues kids to stay healthy!

Accommodating our large number of students has become even more of an untouchable situation because of our resources lost due to damage. Houston Independent School District was so greatly damaged that they have run out of available learning resources.

Through this life-changing event, we have stuck together and managed to create a limited learning environment, but need the community's help! We need to replace our weight and training equipment to provide these less fortunate students a diverse way to stay healthy. These resources will prevent our students from going down the wrong path and help towards living healthy!

My Project

We have been on a quest this school year in replacing the weight room that was lost due to Hurricane Harvey! We have slowly been able to replace certain items that were devastated but yet have plenty left to rebuild. One important necessity that needs replacement is the hundreds of pounds of weights that were ruined in flood waters. Although it's important to rebuild the weight room, and replace the lost weights. One main objective is to try to prevent losing our weight room again in future floods, or reservoir release. I'm want to take a proactive approach that will allow us to salvage weight equipment in the next future flood. To keep future floods from destroying our weight room, I want to provide rubber weights, which won't oxidize. Help me make this dream a reality, and save our school from fall backs in the next flood!
