This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Classrooms are going to be very different this upcoming school year. Not everything is set in stone and may be very different come August, but safety will be a top priority in my classroom. I would like students to be able to feel safe at school, and hopefully it can be a place of sanctuary during stressful times.
The students that come to my school are low income families that have suffered greatly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many of my students families have lost jobs, have had family members get sick, and some have even become homeless. Before the pandemic many of my students struggled academically, with only 55% of them on grade level across subjects. I would like to be able to provide them with the tools they need to be able to learn and grow even during this unprecedented time.
However this pandemic is affecting my students emotionally, they are still expected to try their best at school. They will have an understanding environment and shoulders to lean on, but I know they will struggle to focus on their education. Many of these students had difficult lives before Covid, but this has made life even more complicated.
My Project
These supplies will help my students be more prepared to be out in the world, and the classroom, and be safe doing so. Our school district is planning on heading back to the classroom in August, and I want to make efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19. These students families are struggling and may not be able to provide these necessities for themselves.
If we are expecting our students to come back to school, we need to provide supplies that will hopefully help keep them safe and healthy.
The masks, hand sanitizer, and disenfecting wipes will help to make this happen. Thank you for your support!
