Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a District 75 school in Brooklyn, NY, located in a low-income, high need neighborhood. I am a teacher for six sweet, adorable 5-7 years old students who have been diagnosed with autism. This year, my school started an ABA/VB program to work on students' behaviors, language, and social skills. Unfortunately, we do not have all the supplies needed to run this ABA program successfully. I am requesting basic school supplies including classroom organizers, index cards, laminating paper, and motivating sensory toys necessary for my students with special needs.

My Project

My students are 6-8 years old on the autism spectrum. Our school is a self contained, applied behavioral analysis (ABA) program that focuses on teaching language, social skills, and self help to profoundly autistic students.

My students struggle to use toys for play and socialize with classmates during play time.

They need to learn to play in order to develop more advanced comprehension and social skills. I am asking for cars, airplanes, buses, little people, road tape, and a vehicle garage to teach my students how to roll vehicles around the room, sing along to "the wheels on the bus", and use their words when singing "beep beep" or "vroom!". My students would love to work together during small group activities which playing turn taking and academic games such as Zingo, Feed the Frog, and Pop Up Pirate. They can't wait to play together and learn through fun activities in the classroom!
