I am a Pre-K teacher in a rural Missouri school district! I have between 18-20 students a year who come to me as 4-year-olds. These sweet babies are so excited to learn and the best way they learn is through pretend play!
Pretend play provides students with real-life opportunities to learn socially acceptable behaviors such as sharing, taking turns, problem-solving, and how to communicate effectively as they role play with their friends!
My students are particularly interested in playing real-life type scenarios! This is often referred to as pretend play or dramatic play. They love to recreate the life they see their parents living. Normal things like going to the grocery store, changing the baby's diaper and building a bookshelf are so incredibly exciting!
I would love to provide my students with the opportunity to learn and play with the use of real-life type manipulatives! These can be incorporated into numerous theses with the use of our market stand! I have envisioned a donut shop, an ice cream shop, a farmers market, a lemonade stand, a coffee barista, a cookie stand, a post office, and so much more! I will include our cash register and play money to make the transactions more realistic! The opportunities for this type of pretend play are endless.
