This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a special education preschool class for students with different disabilities such as autism, speech and language impediment, intellectual delays and physical impairments. My students learn through hands on activities and play that help them make connections to the curriculum they are learning. Most of my students are nonverbal, but they are working on being able to communicate using sign language, gestures, and communication devices.
I have eight curious students who do not let their disabilities limit them from learning and enjoying the world around them.
They are eager to learn and share what they know with everyone they meet. They are friendly and very inquisitive. My students come to school with a positive attitude and enjoy learning and helping one another.
My Project
This play set will help make a difference in our students development because it will give the students an opportunity to develop physical and motor skills, and critical thinking.
By giving them this opportunity their language and social skills will drastically see an improvement due to their limited communication skills after the year and a half of having limited human contact due to the pandemic.
Creativity and role playing provided by this play structure will be the way that they gain all of the other skills by learning from each other. Many of them come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and do not have a safe place to explore their fun side in a safe way.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
