Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My second-grade students are a fun-loving bunch of kids who enjoy learning. My second-grade classroom is located within an urban school district, and where 100% of our students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch school.
My students are a mix of general education, special education, and English Language Learners.
The students in my classroom have a wide variety of educational strengths as well as academic needs. A goal I have in my classroom is ensuring that all students are able to independently work at reading stations with materials that are at an appropriate academic level.
Having books on CD available as a reading station removes many barriers because it gives all of my students the ability to listen to the story as they look at the illustrations. Students then work on identifying the story elements of characters, setting, problem/solution and events. Our listening station is used all school year, with a new story being switched out every week. Getting new books and CD's will allow me to replace book/CD sets that have been damaged over time.
