As an alumnus from this school myself, having taught there my entire teaching career and still living in the neighborhood just two blocks away from the school, I have a deep connection to my students. My students are what make teaching worth it every single day. My students work hard, and they are super excited to learn and grow.
Our school is one of the most culturally diverse schools in Chicago with over 45 languages spoken!
It is a Level 1+ elementary school, and while our academic performance might be successful, many of the social and economic needs of our students create struggles. Over 90% of our students qualify for free lunch. The pandemic has also greatly altered the lives of our students causing trauma, learning loss, and disconnection to school. My aim is to foster a welcoming and calm classroom environment that will help all of my students succeed socially and academically in their transition back to in-person learning.
My Project
Recently, my students were lucky enough to have a printer funded through Donor's Choose. This printer is currently sitting on a student's table due to the lack of functional furniture in our classroom. I am requesting that you help my students with purchasing a printer cart for their printer. This will help my students through having access to a mobile technology station that could be centered in the classroom during high printing times such as when they are working on their research projects. The benefits of this would be that student would not have to travel to one group's table to get their printed materials
This would cause less distraction, more focus, and a better system for student printing.
The other cart will be used as a Presentation Station. The students will use this item during small group presentations. Thank you for considering our request that will bring so much joy and organization to our classroom!
