Many of my students come to school from diverse backgrounds and have special needs. They love new materials and exploring the world around them. Most of my students are English Language learners and come from low-income families. These families have limited access to materials in print at home.
In our township, 78% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches.
I am a special education teacher in an urban preschool, and I co-teach with a teacher who specializes in students who are learning English.
My Project
Preschoolers are learning all about themselves and how to share and solve problems. Reading about other kids who solve problems and share gives teachers a context to discuss with students. Early learners need to see how other people talk with each other to solve their problems.
Learning to share and solve problems are important life skills for preschoolers!
Characters in stories can provide preschoolers with role models of how to share and how to work through a problem together. Teachers can also help students build vocabulary for talking with friends through examples from the text.
