Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my preschool for all learners class, we work with three to five-year-old children of varying ability levels with IEPs. During our daily routines, we have teacher-led group activities and child-directed free choice play experiences that are individualized to each student’s abilities and needs.
My students come from low-income households and a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
My students love hands-on material and visuals that inspire learning and curiosity. They are very creative, fun-loving, and enthusiastic learners. Unfortunately, sometimes it is difficult to provide them with all the help and material they need because of a lack of resources at home and in the classroom. In March of 2020, our district went to distance learning, and students and their families struggled to maintain their learning environment without the proper resources commonly found in the classroom.
My Project
My class is composed of special needs children with various abilities and needs. The materials that I am requesting will directly benefit my students social emotional and sensory needs in the classroom. The material will give them an opportunity to seek and request a place where they can go when they are feeling overwhelmed, tired, upset or in need of a break.
The material I am requesting will help my students calm their bodies and minds when they need extra support in the classroom.
These sensory items will help them explore their sensory regulation skills. For instance they will be able to use the different texture pillows to help them better their attention span and focus. As well as help them meet their IEP goals by having sensory items and positive reinforcement that will help them learn. Having a wobbly chair and cushion will give my students an opportunity to learn what they like and do not like as they become more comfortable with all sensors that were unknown beforehand.
