My Students
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in a pre-school located in the Bronx. I work with special education preschoolers during individual and small group sessions, as well as during whole group lessons with their classroom teachers.
My students present with various speech and language disabilities that impacts their ability to communicate.
My students range from 2-5 years of age. Many of my students are non-verbal or minimally verbal, making it difficult for them to communicate their basic wants and needs. They rely mostly on gestures, pointing and/or crying to communicate.
Despite the challenges my students encounter, they have a desire to learn and grow. As a Speech-Language Pathologist working with young students, I believe in using a “learning through play” approach. My exceptional students love engaging, interactive activities, whether it is through play, reading books or any interactive technology available (e.g., music, iPad, communication device).
My Project
I am asking for materials to help create individual learning bundles for each of my students, whether the materials will be used in the school setting or home setting for remote learning. Materials will be shared with parents and classroom staff to ensure every student is able to communicate and learn.
I am grateful and appreciative of those who are as excited as I am to prepare myself and my students for anything that is to come this new school year whether in person or remotely and working together with parents!
Materials will be used to specifically to promote play, socialization, and speech/language in naturalistic settings and with motivating materials for each student.
