My students are enthusiastic and eager to explore the world around them. They love creating, building, imagining, exploring, singing, dancing, and moving! We are a class community that loves to learn together.
I teach 20 preschool students in a self-contained special education classroom.
We are working to develop speech and language skills, social skills, academic/cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skills, and independent functioning skills. Incorporating hands-on materials and movement keep my students engaged and curious. Learning should be fun!
My Project
Now more than ever, it is important to teach social-emotional skills to children. The preschool classroom is the perfect place to work on these skills as they learn to make friends and solve conflicts. My students will learn to identify their own feelings and the feelings of others, using the mirrors and feelings cards and tiles. During large group time, we will develop problem solving skills by using the puppets to act out scenarios involving conflict. We will also use the puppets to act out stories involving strong feelings and conflict resolution. The "What would you do" jar is a perfect activity to use during small group time to think about situations before they occur. Students will learn calming techniques and have the treehouse hideaway as an option to manage their feelings. I will use the Mindful Kids activity cards to teach and review skills throughout the school year.
