This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an urban school in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our preschool grade is made up of 45 students. The program is an integrated special education classroom with 50% special needs and 50% general education students.
Imagine being in a home with no crayons.
This is the reality for many of my preschool students. These children are greatly affected by these most recent global events in a very personal way. Preschool students require some basic materials at home to be able to participate in remote learning. Multiple families have reached out asking for support in regards to simple art materials to keep their little learner engaged and participating in academic preschool adventures. Please help me to help them.
My Project
Our goal is to ready these amazing learners for Kindergarten to be on an even playing ground with their peers. We want to limit the amount of regression and encourage as much constructive play and learning at home. We will be using the art items in numerous ways.
One project is to create a number-line out of art supplies and creativity.
The students will construct different number representations at home and share them with the whole class online to create an entire number-line together. We will use the preschool kit to work on sorting, color identification, letter identification and fine motor skills. All of these are areas where we were so close to meeting academic goals before we were taking out of the school setting. Our hope is to keep learning happening every day in a fun way at home.
Please help me give my students learning materials for home and distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are not able to leave their homes due to the quarantine in Massachusetts. My student needs a variety of art materials and hands-on learning materials to participate in online learning. These kits also contain hands-on learning materials that make learning exciting!
