My students need STEM materials so that they can continue to enrich their cognitive development, a crucial area of growth in early education.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching the greatest group of preschool students who are eager to learn, and get to do so through play. My room is an early childhood special education class, with students ranging from 3 to 5 years of age. Our students have eligibilities that vary widely, including:
Developmental Delay, Down Syndrome, Speech / Language Impairment, and Intellectual Disability (formerly known as Mental Retardation).
We have a happy bunch of students who have fun and are always reaching out to learn about the world around them.
My Project
Our program's preschool curriculum is robust in language development, but could use additional support in cognitive development. We need to give our students even more support in the area of STEM; specifically, we really want to help develop basic mathematical concepts. It's the stuff we don't even think about when we think of math, like understanding one-to-one correspondence, as well as ideas more familiar, like learning to rote count. The Counting Cans, the Counting Frame, and the Counting and Sorting Ovens will help our students develop their rote and actual counting skills. The Geoboards will help the students to develop an understanding of geometry by allowing them to make the shapes. All of this equipment will help to make sure that the students' cognitive skills are being given all the fun and stimulation they can, and your donation would help us provide that.
Cognitive development is one of the six critical areas we address in our special education program.
But what ends up happening is that while we focus on the cognitive development, other areas of development overlap and help overall growth. Not only will their cognitive skills grow, but language development, fine motor skills, and eye-hand coordination will grow as well. When you help us with these materials, you help us in not one, but three of six critical domains of our special education program. Your donation helps address up to half of their special education with us. You're making a big difference!
