This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our preschool students create art every day, it is one of their favorite activities. We have several opportunities for children to participate in this important aspect of creative, cognitive, social-emotional, and fine motor development. These include painting or drawing on cutouts or paper and making collages with sequins, feathers, or gemstones. They can also work with felt using beads, pompons, pipe cleaners, and wiggle eyes while cutting and gluing. It is our goal to have students participate in as many different creative outlets as they wish providing them a valuable outlet for creativity and emotions. Arts and crafts are preschool standards that are timeless and will always hold an important role in many areas of child development.

Having a variety of supplies and mediums for children to create helps to satisfy their creative, cognitive, social-emotional, and fine motor development needs.

Currently, we do not have enough of these supplies. We run out of craft items for collages, have no felt activities, and at times limit children’s painting to one picture a day because of the amount of paper we have. Not being able to freely create is disappointing to some students and frustrating for me as a teacher. I have paid for some supplies out of my own pocket, but it is not feasible for me to continue this practice. Having this wish fulfilled would help supply our classroom for the entire year and allow us to freely allow children to create as they wish.
