I'm biased, but I know the best place to be in the entire school building is the library. As a rural high school librarian, I want my students to view the school library as a place that provides books for pleasure and informational reading, homework and research help, technology tips, as well as a place to explore new hobbies.
A few years ago, I began offering my students a monthly subscription box service—LitCrate.
Each LitCrate includes a library book (chosen specifically for them based on the genre they prefer), a DIY activity, a gluten free snack, and other literary surprises (bookmark and vinyl sticker).
The Solar Racer requested in this project is a great DIY STEM activity. Once assembled the Solar Racer moves at a fast pace (fast adult walk in full sunlight) and provides hours of exciting racing fun. No tools are needed to build with the kit’s components that easily pop together with friction and hold tight.
The only rule to receiving a LitCrate is to agree that the book and empty box is returned prior to requesting another LitCrate. Other than the book chosen for them and the box, is the student’s to keep. After several months of reusing boxes, some of the boxes need replaced.
