This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is where we ask each other is Math life, or does Math describe life? This has been an exciting year of thinking critically through linear equations, systems, graphing, geometry, exponents, the order of operations, inequalities, absolute value and the Fibonacci sequence.

My students are a thoughtful and inquisitive bunch of middle school students.

They want to do well in math because they know that it will help them in their future endeavors and help them develop problem solving skills that they can apply immediately. Our school is a tight knit community of learners with students from all different backgrounds and life experiences. Breakfast is served to all students and teachers in our homeroom classes. This is a great time for my students to eat, get some reading done, do some homework and connect and share the news of the day. We have a culture of supporting students in their goal of going to college and furthering their academics to prepare them for the career of their choice. I have students will a varying degree of experience with math. As a result, we cover a wide range of topics, from a review of integers, fractions, scientific notation to geometry and quadratics.

My Project

I will be learning how to teach students that Algebra connects with something relevant to their lives, technology. I will learn a curriculum that incorporates computer science with the Algebra standards I teach the students from day to day. Students will understand that knowing Algebra helps designers create video games.

My students are curious about how relationships in the world around us can be quantified using the language of Algebra.

For example, my student Z.K., pointed out to me that computer coding utilizes his knowledge of Algebraic functions, "programming is easier when you know Algebra." These problem solving skills are necessary for our new generation of learners, which would happen to include me, if you help me achieve this goal.
