This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How can we prepare our students to meet the challenges and receive the benefits of the increasingly diverse world they will have to live in? Help me teach my students to respect and value people regardless of the color of their skin or the language they speak.
My students are first graders attending a school located in a low social-economic area in Los Angeles.
There are 15 boys and 7 girls between the ages of 6 and 7. My class is composed of 100% Latino students. Even though my class is compose of 100% latino students their parents come from various parts of Latin America. Therefore with different beliefs and traditions that they need to learn to respect and value. All 22 students are Spanish-speaking students with Spanish-speaking parents.
My Project
Right now is a great opportunity for my students to learn to live respectfully together, benefit from one another experiences and to learn to live in this diverse world. For this reason I am asking for the books "It's Okay to be Different" by Todd Parr and "Black, White, Just Right!" by Marguerite Davol. To help my first graders understand and discuss what diversity means and how it applies to them. I am also asking for a kindle tablet to be able to research about cultural and diversity issues and allow them to make personal connections. They would also have the opportunity to visit Todd Parr's website and create pages for their own books about diversity. The Sony Bloggie will be use to record students as they experience foods from different parts of the world and talk about what they thought about these.
Please help me teach my students about diversity and to become empathetic human beings.
Help my students accept and value the rich and diverse wold we live in by providing them with the necessary tools.
