Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There are times when we are so involved in our work that the room is silent with the sound of concentration.
My students come from the difficult world of poverty and disenfranchisement.
School is their haven. They are special. They are praised. They enjoy each other. They are kids just like students across the country. Education is an opportunity to develop as productive citizens.
My Project
Each student will receive a pillow making kit and stuffing. When we open the kit we will inventory our materials. We will read and follow instructions. We will share techniques. We will concentrate on producing a final product we can share with our classroom, friends and family.
Sewing is a creative activity that my students take for granted.
They will learn the process of putting together pieces to make a whole. This activity is a metaphor for writing a story or solving an equation.
