Hi! I teach 10th Grade Modern World History. I am teaching at Y.E.S. (Youth Empowerment School), a small Title I (low-income) high school in East Oakland. Currently my students are all working towards our BIG goal of college preparation. A large portion of preparing for college is providing our students with the opportunities to interact with modern, up-to-date technology and fundamental note-taking skills. While I can work with my students on note-taking methods from textbooks, overhead transparencies, and the dry erase board, I cannot deny that because of funding constraints, they most certainly are not receiving high quality presentations and lectures via power-point presentations. In wealthier neighboring school districts, students have access to lectures and prepare for college by taking notes from their teachers' power-point presentations. I cannot convey to you how much passion and drive my students in East Oakland have for their goals. They inspire me every day with their resolve for a quality education and their dreams of attending college. Any help to fund a LCD projector would immediately enhance all of their chances for a new life track- the college track. Not only would our students be able to take-notes like other students, they would be exposed to the technology that they will most certainly encounter in college.
