Preparing My Virtual Classroom for in-Person Students Again!

Help me give my students a monitor, surge protector, gel pens, and other materials for the best in-person experience I can give them during such an uncertain time!

My Students

I teach at a school of almost 4000 high school students, and I end up with about 130 students per semester in my class. I teach two ENL math classes, and after just one year, I have learned so much about communication and collaboration that I never could've learned otherwise.

My students alone speak over 10 different native languages, and still somehow manage to complete all of their high-level math coursework in English.

Add virtual learning on top of it, and you could say they have a lot on their plates!

My Project

My school district just announced that we will be transitioning from 100% virtual learning to a hybrid learning model in just one short month. I am anxious and excited, but I would feel even better if I was able to make a few adjustments to my classroom before my students return.

Extension chords and power strips will allow the students sitting in my classroom to interact with their virtual classmates, without the obstacle of a dead battery.

I never want an uncharged computer to get in the way of student participation. With laptops charged, students can interact with their virtual classmates seamlessly as we play Kahoot, challenge one another on Quizizz, and foster meaningful discussion from our classroom students to the students at home.

A secondary computer monitor will allow me to utilize dual screens to accommodate students in person and students attending virtually from home. Hand sanitizer and masks will keep students safe as they interact with one another, probably for the first time in a while. These sanitation materials will be vital for keeping me and my students safe as we share common areas! Additionally, a printer and ink in my classroom will allow me to be present in my room with my students more than ever before, and limit unnecessary time in the copy room away from my students. Washi tape will allow me to section off areas of my room for social distancing, including desks and chairs that will not be utilized. A fresh supply of pens will allow students to borrow utensils with adequate time for me to sanitize used pens.
