This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Before anything else, preparation is the key to success." ~Alexander Graham Bell
I strive to make sure my students can succeed. In order to do this, it takes a lot of preparation! These supplies are necessities to help my students succeed.
My students are part of a tight-knit community in southwest Baltimore City.
This is a community that was affected by the unrest in April of this year, and I admire my students for their response to the adversity. Most of my students cannot afford school materials, so I keep community materials on hand to support their learning.
My Project
The clear, stackable tubs will be the building blocks of our new math centers. I will create hands-on learning opportunities for students in each tub, and students will get a chance each day to apply what they are learning in teams.
The small drawers will organize our crayons in a much more efficient way than we've had in the past. The crayons will be sorted by color this year, making it easier for students to locate what they need when they are supporting their writing with illustrations or creating engineering blueprints.
Every classroom needs a supply of paper, pencils, and erasers. Did you know that 2nd grade students are in a developmental stage of perfectionism? They use up erasers!
Finally, the dry erase markers are necessary for daily practice of everything from spelling patterns to math facts, and are a way to keep our paper usage down.
My students face nearly insurmountable odds.
As Baltimore City students, most people expect them to fail. I refuse to allow that. I will prepare my students for success in my classroom. In doing so, I will prepare them for success in life. They will be the leaders in their community, their city, and their country. A donation to this project means that you believe they can achieve this.
