My Project
Donating essential items such as paper, pencils, calculators, and testing dividers are is an incredible contribution to a students academic success. These items play a large role in student engagement and overall understanding in mathematical concepts.
I work in an urban school and teach 160 students, however our school only allocates 2 reams of paper a month to each teacher.
However, on average I use 1-2 reams a week as my students have told me that practicing math on paper helps them learn better. I also have many students who become overwhelmed when a worksheet or assessment has too many problems on one page. My students also do not bring their computers to school every day, so I can not rely on online resources to teach. Therefore, I can not be sparing with my paper usage if I want my students to learn and be prepared for the MCAS.
I have about 30 students in my room during each class and many of them reported they can become distracted during tests because there are so many people. I am excited to incorporate testing dividers to help student get privacy during assessments along with prevent any dishonesty in testing settings.
The Math MCAS has one full day where students are allowed a calculator on the test. Since I teach Geometry, it is also my repsonsibiliuty to teach students how to use their calculators (typing in fractions, trigonometric functions, pi, etc.) in order for them to succeed. However, I do not have enough calculators for all of my students.
