This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a diverse group of students, many of whom speak more than one language, who are managing to learn remotely. This situation, as you may know, can be challenging. My students are coping as well as can be expected during this unprecedented time, and I am extremely proud of their efforts to continue their education.
Connecting "real world" scenarios into my math lessons, by incorporating and sharing my business management experience, has ignited a fire in almost all of them.
They're more invested in learning about how to potentially obtain and maintain their first job in a few years. The looks on their faces are priceless when they hear anecdotes such as, "working hard on the right big thing" is often more important than getting an "A" on a test. One chronically late student actually started logging in on time when he heard my story of firing a teenager who was consistently late to work. All these lessons are important, especially to combat "Covid fatigue".
My Project
My school is planning and preparing for blended learning beginning next semester in January. I am a proponent of in-person teaching, and want to conduct it safely and purposefully to protect everyone. Protective goggles and storage units will aid in accomplishing this goal.
To prepare our classroom for students who will attend face-to-face learning, I need additional storage to better organize their supplies, materials, and math manipulatives.
Additional storage will help me and my students maintain cleanliness and organization. We will designate a "place for everything, and put everything in a place". After all, a well organized, clean classroom is conducive to safety as well as to learning.
