I teach fourth-grade reading and social studies at our upper elementary school. My students are wildly diverse in economics and educational levels. These resources I am asking for would expand my students’ tactile experiences as well as provide social-emotional wellness for students who struggle.
I believe having access to magazines that students can keep and take home will encourage them to read their 20 minutes nightly.
Magazines provide a way for students to make real-world connections while also learning about standard topics we cover in class. This would give every student access to reading material even when their home lives don’t have that opportunity.
I have asked for colored pencils because these are our most used resources and each student does not have access to new ones when needed. The Spot books and activities provide top-notch social-emotional wellness to students who need a minute to calm down and then rejoin our class. By providing students a corner or quiet place to use their coping skills they can self-regulate with little direction from the teacher, giving them valuable life skills.
In addition to these classroom essentials, I am asking for a TPT gift card which will allow me to buy curriculum-based lessons to coincide with my new resources. If my project is fulfilled, all of these resources will touch the lives of fourth graders for many years to come.
