My Students
Could you imagine sitting in a 3rd grade classroom thinking about your future and ambitions all the while knowing that you might be doing a job that hasn't even been invented yet? This is the exciting and incredible reality of students in today's classrooms.
My students are an enthusiastic group of third graders.
They have ambitions to be veterinarians, teachers, doctors, inventors, and scientists. Many of them will even go on to being successful in careers that aren't even invented today. My students come from a rural town in South Carolina and my school serves the most at-need students in our community, with over 90% of my students qualifying for free or reduced lunch and very few of them having access to a computer or the Internet at home. While we are very blessed to have two desktop computers for daily use in our classroom, this is simply not enough to prepare my students to be successful in the 21st century. My students love learning and they are eager to come to school each day. They greet me with a smile each morning and we enjoy a roomful of energy and spunk on a daily basis.
My Project
We need more access to technology in our classroom so that my students can become technologically literate and prepared for college and their future careers. My students would use the Chromebooks from this project on a daily basis and in a variety of ways. With over 15 hours of professional development in technology integration, you can rest assured that technology in our classroom would be utilized to the fullest. We look forward to using technology during our reading centers to listen to great examples of fluency on a multitude of free listening to reading websites. Additionally, we will be able to access the Internet and learn valuable research skills as well as be able to publish our writing to share with others. We will be able to create presentations to show our understanding of what we are learning in all subject areas. Creativity is the highest level of critical thinking in Bloom's taxonomy so this would teach my students critical thinking skills in and beyond the curriculum.
My students will learn critical computer skills that will promote technological literacy.
This will prepare them for their life after third grade. Additionally, technology is fun and engaging and it is something that most of my students cannot experience at home. This project will get my students excited about their learning! Finally, the ability to foster higher level thinking will help prepare my students to think critically in their future endeavors and help them to be successful.
